Broken wheat Pongal

Healthy and easy Broken wheat Ven Pongal with veggies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Broken wheat | Samba wheat | dalia
  • ¼ cup Yellow moong dal
  • ¾ cup Mixed veggies
  • 2 tsp Ginger grated
  • Cashew nuts few optional
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves few
  • Asafoetida 2 pinches
  • 5- 6 cups Water
  • ½ tblsp Oil
  • 1 tblsp Ghee
  • Salt as needed

Instructions

  • In a pressure cooker add ½ tblsp of oil and 1 tblsp ghee.
  • Add 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 2 tsp grated ginger, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • If you want to add some cashew nuts (optional).
  • Cook till the nuts turn golden brown.
  • Now add in ¾ cup mixed veggies.
  • I took carrot, beans and green peas. Mix well
  • Add in ¼ cup yellow moong dal. You can add ½ cup also.
  • We can add the broken wheat now and mix well.
  • Add 5-6 cups of water and add salt.
  • Cover the pressure cooker
  • Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
  • Switch off and wait for the pressure to release completely.
  • Once pressure releases, open the cooker.
  • Mix well.
  • Drizzle ghee if needed
  • Broken wheat pongal ready.
  • Serve hot with onion gotsu or capsicum sambar or coconut chutney.

Notes

You can coarsely grind the pepper, cumin, ginger and curry leaves and add in oil.
2. Turmeric powder can be added to the Broken wheat Pongal.
