Keerai sadam recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 cup washed and chopped spinach
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt as needed

To temper

  • 3 tsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 2 tsp chana dal
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 onion

Instructions

  • In a pan add 1 tsp oil and add the chopped spinach, garlic and cumin seeds.
  • Saute this for 2-3 minutes till the spinach gets cooked. Let this retain it’s green color.
  • Take out and grind this into a smooth paste by adding little water.
  • In the same pan add 3 tsp of oil and add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal and peanuts.
  • Saute till the dal turns golden brown.
  • Now add the onions to this.
  • Add salt to this and cook till it becomes translucent.
  • Now add the ground paste.
  • Saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add the cooked rice to this.
  • Mix well evenly.
  • Add 1 tsp of ghee to this.
  • Mix well. Keerai sadam is ready.
  • Serve with vadam or onion raita.

Notes

1. You can use Indian palak, arai keerai or mulai keerai, or round spinach too.
2. Methi leaves | vendaya keerai won’t suit this keerai sadam.
3. Parboiled carrots and peas can be added to this keerai sadam.
4. You can use basmati rice for making this keerai sadam.
