- ½ cup chana dal | kadalai paruppu
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- 2 pinches asafoetida
- Salt as needed
- 2 tbsp coconut
- Few curry leaves
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 red chili
Soak the kadalai paruppu | chana dal for 45 minutes.
Pressure cook this by adding a pinch of turmeric powder and a little salt, till 1-2 whistles.
Be careful not to mash this dal by overcooking.
Drain the excess water. In a pan add oil and temper with mustard seeds and broken red chilli.
when the mustards start spluttering, add the cooked chana dal. Mix well and saute for a minute.
Add the scrapped coconut and mix well. Switch off the flame. Garnish with curry leaves.
Kadalai paruppu Sundal is ready for Neivedhyam.
Note:
1. You can replace red chillis with green chillis too.
2. Always ensure that the chana dal is not overcooked.
3. Chana dal sundal can be served as an accompaniment to meal
