Ingredients

  • 1 big onion
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • ¼ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • ¼ tsp black salt | kaala namak
  • Salt as needed
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • 1 small lemon
  • 1 tsp mustard oil optional

Instructions

  • Peel and wash the onion. I used one big red onion.
  • Cut this into thick roundels.
  • Separate the onions.
  • In a bowl add ice cold water and immerse the onions into this.
  • Drain the water and keep it aside. Gently pat dry this.
  • In a bowl add the red chili powder, chaat masala, black salt, cumin powder and salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Add the chopped chili, coriander leaves and the spice mix to the onions.
  • Now squeeze the lemon juice to this.
  • If adding mustard oil, add this now.
  • Mix well.
  • Onion Laccha is ready.
  • Serve with Chole bhatura, kebab, naan or any north Indian meal.

Notes

1. Always cut the onions into little thick roundels.
2. Onion laccha should me made just before serving, else the onions will loose it’s crunchiness.
