Ingredients

  • 1 cup vazhaithandu | banana stem finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • ½ tomato finely chopped
  • ¼ cup grated carrot
  • ¼ cup cucumber finely chopped
  • 3-4 tbsp roasted peanuts you can use boiled peanuts too
  • 2 tbsp green chutney
  • 2 tbsp sweet chutney
  • 4 tbsp sev I used Omapodi
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • ¼ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • Little salt if needed
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice I missed to add

Instructions

  • Chop the banana stem into fine pieces.
  • Take out the fibre from the banana stem as you cut them.
  • I cut them the previous day and put them in water.
  • Add 1 tbsp of curd till you use, this helps in avoiding decolouration.
  • When it is ready to use, drain the water completely.
  • Add the finely chopped banana stem to a wide bowl.
  • We are adding it raw, no need to cook. It is ok to consume the banana stem raw.
  • Add 1 finely chopped onions, ¼ cup chopped cucumber, ½ tomato chopped, ¼ cup grated carrot and little salt.
  • Do not add more salt, we will be adding chaat masala and chaat chutneys.
  • Now add ¼ tsp red chili powder and 1 tsp chaat masala.
  • Add 3-4 tbsp roasted peanuts, alternatively you can add boiled peanuts too.
  • To this add 2 tbsp sev, I added South Indian Omapodi.
  • Now add 2 tbsp sweet chutney and 2 tbsp of green chutney to this.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves
  • Lastly add 2 tbsp of sev.
  • Banana stem | Vazhaithandu chaat is ready
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

1. You can add boiled chana to the chaat.
2. Roasted peanuts can be replaced with boiled peanuts.
3. Vazhaithandu can be consumed raw, so do not worry about adding that raw.
