Dangar pachadi | urad dal raita | dangar thayir pachadi, a traditional, heirloom pachadi recipe made using roasted urad dal flour. Dangar pachadi is an authentic Tamil brahmin recipe, i don;t know how many people of this generation knows about this dish. We grew up eating Dangar pachadi more often. There are few variations to this dangar pachadi, followed in every home, but the basic thing is using roasted urad dal flour and curd. My mom always makes it as a no cook pachadi only. So it is always my duty to make this Dangar pachadi at home. This pachadi is a great combo for Vatha kuzhambu, milagu kuzhambu and even for sambar too. We usually make raita using veggies and curd, but this one is made using roasted urad dal flour and curd.

Ingredients

  • Roasted Urad dal flour 1 tblsp
  • Curd 1/2 cup
  • Water 1/4 cup
  • Green chili 2
  • Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves few
  • Salt as needed

Description

Dangar pachadi, a traditional, heirloom pachadi recipe made using roasted urad dal flour.

  • Chop the green chili into small pieces. Take the chopped green chili, curry leaves, 1/4 tsp cumin seeds and salt in your hands.
  • Crush it nicely with your hands. No need to grind in the mixie, a nice crush using fingers will burst out the flavours.
  • In a bowl add the roasted urad dal flour. Add this crushed mixture too.
  • In another bowl add the curd and beat this well. Add 1/4 cup of water to this. Mix well.
  • Add this little by little to the flour mixture and whisk well without any lumps. 
  • Mix well. 
  • Dangar pachadi is ready to serve. 

Notes

1. You can temper mustard seeds and asafoetida in oil and add to the Dangar pachadi
